Breaking into the Defence sector can feel complex. Long lead times, layered procurement processes, and strict requirements often leave businesses unsure where to start. The Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Defence Network (ISRDN), delivered by RDAIS and funded through Investment NSW, is offering a series of free workshops designed to demystify Defence procurement and help local businesses succeed.
The Defence Business Development Program comprises three workshops. The first, Marketing for Defence, taking place on Wednesday 23 July, will provide strategies for effectively positioning your business and connecting with and marketing to key stakeholders in the Defence ecosystem. The second workshop, Tendering to Defence, scheduled for Wednesday 27 August, is a masterclass in navigating the tendering process. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how Defence operates, learn a five-point framework for compelling tender submissions, and receive practical insights to align with ASDEFCON requirements while avoiding common mistakes.
The final session, Next Steps in Defence, on Wednesday 15 October, is designed for businesses that have already begun exploring opportunities in Defence and are ready to deepen their understanding. This workshop will cover post-contract designation, above and below the line contracting, contract negotiations, and critical activities leading up to contract commencement and delivery. The session equips participants with the knowledge needed to navigate early contracts successfully and avoid pitfalls that can derail new suppliers.
Moderated by Tim Walmsley, these workshops provide a practical, hands-on approach to entering and thriving in the Defence sector. By attending, businesses will build the confidence, skills, and connections necessary to compete effectively and grow within this strategically important industry.
