Aged Care, Disability and Community Services Sector
Significant growth has occured in the Aged Care, Disability and Community (ACDC) Services sectors over the past 10 years. The ACDC sectors are undergoing regulatory reforms, including consumer choice driven models such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and My Aged Care. With an increase in demand (ageing population & NDIS), the sector has grown, however, there are workforce challenges in meeting these growth demands.
RDA Illawarra, with support from the NSW Government, developed a Project to deliver employer-led strategies to minimise skill shortages (quantity and quality) within the Aged Care, Disability, and Community Services sectors.
The ACDC sectors are experiencing continual growth in employment needs over the next 3-5 years, with 11-13% year-on-year growth expected. The project developed significant resources that will:
- assist employers with innovative recruitment strategies through the Employer Toolkit and case studies
- improve connections between universities, TAFE, students and employers
- conducted focus groups of young people to enable employers to better understand their perceptions of the sectors.
RDA Illawarra completed a workforce survey, Employer Toolkit and a Final Report for the ACDC Workforce Development Project, and resources are available here:
